UNC-Horizons
Established in 1993, UNC Horizons is a substance use disorder treatment program for women, pregnant and/or parenting young children, and is a part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Since our founding we have served over 5,000 women. Our mission is to provide world class empowering and transformative interdisciplinary care to women and their children affected by substance use disorders.
We realize this mission by:
Offering a continuum of services and evidence based, women centered, attachment and trauma-responsive programing to inspire women and their children to thrive
Generating and applying scientific knowledge to improve women’s and children’s lives
Training local and international scholars and care providers to implement our cutting-edge model of life changing care
UNC Horizons offers a continuum of medical and behavioral health services to women and children
Horizons offers outpatient treatment in Carrboro and Raleigh, and at our high-risk OB/GYN clinic in Chapel Hill. We also offer long-term residential treatment in Chapel Hill for women and their children. Programming focuses on addiction education, relapse prevention, parenting, healthy relationships, health and safety, trauma recovery, and job readiness. We provide group treatment, individual therapy, child services, case management, and peer support services (including home visits). Horizons offers weekly onsite psychiatry services, and in our OB/GYN and psychiatry clinics we provide Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) with buprenorphine for patients with opioid use disorders. In Carrboro we also have our own licensed, five-star child care center for the children of women in our program.
