Delayed Cord Clamping (DCC)

when to cut the cord

Curious about the benefits of delaying?

The most important questions to ask yourself are, “Do I see blue?” and “Can I feel a pulse?”

After your baby is born, they are still sharing and returning blood with their placenta. Clamping the cord too early may deprive your baby of myelin, stem cells, iron-rich red blood cells, and a loss in blood volume. It is reasonable to ask your provider to delay cord clamping for five minutes while you bond with your baby on your chest.
